R. Scott Hutcheson - Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer

 

 

R. Scott Hutcheson is a founding partner, the Chairman and President & CEO of Aspen Properties Ltd.

Aspen is primarily involved in the ownership and management of downtown office buildings in Calgary and Edmonton. Aspen co-owns and manages approximately 1.9 million square feet of office space in 5 buildings and 2,270 parking stalls. The portfolio includes landmarks such as the Calgary Tower and Scotia Centre in Calgary. Aspen also has over one million square feet of “A” office space on the drawing board for development in the Calgary market. The 300,000 square foot Palliser South office tower is currently under construction, and is expected to be completed in August 2009.

Hutcheson has grown Aspen from one employee in 1998 to approximately 80 employees today. Other corporate investments are in Belize and Shanghai. Aspen co-owns and manages approximately $1 billion in assets today, after selling $750 million of assets last year.

Prior to joining Aspen Properties, Hutcheson served as President of a real estate partnership in Florida that included a major University Endowment Fund. Hutcheson was also previously employed as an investment banker for Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York and San Francisco.

Hutcheson holds a Master of Science degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Utah. He skied for the Canadian National Alpine Ski Team from 1978 to 1982 and competed in the World Cup and the World Championships for Canada. Hutcheson was also a member of the NCAA Championship Ski Team during 1983 where he was First Team All-American.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of CODA (Calgary Olympic Development Association); member, Board of Directors, Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts; member, Board of Directors, LED Liver; member, Board of Trustees of Huntingdon REIT; member, Young President’s Organization; member, Business Investment Advisory Committee for Calgary Economic Development; member, Ranchmen’s Club and the Glencoe Golf and Country Club in Calgary; member, Osler Bluff Ski Club in Collingwood, Ontario; and co-owner, member of the Board of Directors of the Norquay Ski Area in Banff. Hutcheson has served as the Chairman of the Calgary Real Estate Forum and is a frequent speaker in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto real estate conferences, and has been named by the Calgary Herald as one of Calgary's 20 most compelling people.

Greg A. Guatto - Chief Operating Officer

 

 

Greg Guatto is the Chief Operating Officer, a Director and a Principle of Aspen Properties Ltd. He is responsible for acquisition, disposition, asset management, property management and leasing for the company.

Mr. Guatto previously worked with TrizecHahn Properties Ltd. and Knowlton Realty Ltd. He received an HBA in Business Administration, with Honours, from The Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in 1990.

Veronica D. Bouvier - Executive Vice President, & Chief Financial Officer

 

 

Ms. Bouvier joined Aspen Properties in 2000, following Aspen's acquisition of shares of Consolidated Properties Ltd, a previous TSX publicly traded real-estate company. Prior to this she worked with Fairweather Properties Inc., a Winnipeg-based real estate management and development company and Deloitte Haskins & Sells, Chartered Accountants.

As an Officer, Director and Principle of Aspen, her responsibilities include financial reporting and forecasting, performance measurement, financial due diligence and analysis, mortgage financing, human resources and corporate governance.

Ms. Bouvier is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Chartered Secretaries of Canada. She has a Bachelor of Commerce with Honors from the University of Manitoba. She is a committee member of the Complaints Inquiry Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and the Treasurer of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women).

Rob Blackwell — Director of Leasing
 

Rob Blackwell joined Aspen Properties in October 2004 as Leasing Manager of the Calgary office portfolio. He was promoted to Director of Leasing (Calgary) in January 2007, responsible for the leasing of the Calgary Portfolio. Prior to joining Aspen, Mr. Blackwell specialized in downtown Calgary office leasing with Avison Young Commercial Real Estate.

Mr. Blackwell is a graduate of the University of Calgary with a Degree in Commerce (Finance). He also is the chairman of the Charitable Contributions Committee at Aspen Properties.

Jay Cowan—Vice President, Real Estate
 

Jay Cowan joined Aspen Properties in March 2006 to oversee operations, leasing, and construction for the Calgary East Business Unit. With bottom line responsibility, Mr. Cowan is an integral part of the management team.

His background includes 12 years of real estate experience with Cadillac Fairview Corporation and GWL Realty Advisors in the leasing and asset management disciplines, and Brookfield Properties where he worked in the property management and leasing divisions.

Mr. Cowan has been involved in many large and high profiled transactions over the years and has achieved a high degree of success with each of the above organizations.

He is a graduate of the University of Guelph with a double major BA in Management and Economics. He is also a Certified Advertising Agency Practitioner.

Chris W. Howard—Vice President, Real Estate
 

Chris Howard joined Aspen Properties in April 2003 as Leasing Manager of the Calgary office portfolio. He was promoted to General Manager in 2006, and Vice President, Real Estate, in 2007, responsible for the asset management of the Calgary West Business Unit. His core responsibilities include tenant retention and satisfaction, communication with ownership, value creation, underwriting, financing and redevelopment of the portfolio of buildings he serves. He has also worked extensively in acquisitions, leading both internal and external teams in the due diligence of major office complexes in downtown Calgary and Edmonton.

Prior to joining Aspen, Mr. Howard spent four years specializing in downtown Calgary office leasing, most recently with Avison Young Commercial Real Estate.

Mr. Howard is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a BA in English. He is currently a candidate member of the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) program and is working towards his CREA Broker designation.

Murray J. Lange - Vice President, Real Estate

 

Murray Lange joined Aspen Properties in July 2004. His primary responsibilities include overseeing the leasing, operations and administration of the Edmonton portfolio as well as identifying and executing value add strategies and growth opportunities.

Prior to joining Aspen, Mr. Lange spent a decade working in various real estate roles including operations, property management, leasing and brokerage with Oxford Properties, Sun Life Financial and Avison Young.

Mr. Lange is a graduate of NAIT where he earned an Honors Diploma in Business Administration and he is currently a candidate member of the Certified Commercial Investment Member(CCIM). He also serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement and is involved in various other fundraising efforts for youth related charitable organizations.

Kelly J. Wildeman - Controller

 

Kelly Wildeman joined Aspen Properties in June 2002. His responsibilities include financial reporting, tax planning and compliance, budgeting, forecasting, treasury and cash management.
 

Mr. Wildeman is a Certified Management Accountant with seventeen years of extensive experience. Prior to Aspen Properties, Kelly spent three years as Assistant Controller for a large Western-Canadian construction company. Previous experience included the energy industry in Calgary and public practice in Saskatoon.
